Ann Cleeves

Ann Cleeves

Ann Cleeves is the creator of two of the most popular book and television series of recent years. Her two detectives, Vera Stanhope and Jimmy Perez have both featured in eight highly-acclaimed novels as well as their small-screen adaptations.

Vera spawned the much-loved ITV series of the same name starring Brenda Blethyn which has been on our screens since 2011, while Jimmy Perez is the star of the BBC1 drama Shetland where he is played by Scots actor Douglas Henshall.

Ann has a particular skill for combining stunning locations and enthralling characters to great effect. She is  set to pull off the same trick in a brand new series, featuring Detective Matthew Venn and set in North Devon – where Ann grew up – at the convergence of the rivers Taw and Torridge. The Long Call is the first in the Two Rivers series.

Venn is back in Devon for the funeral of his father, returning to a community he had left behind. But he’s also there to take charge of his first major case in the Two Rivers region: a complex place not quite as idyllic as tourists suppose.
